Healthy Habits

We all want to see the children we teach as happy, and healthy little people. I know that this isn't always the case when we see children come into our care. Some children need us to help teach them some healthy habits to create an amazing foundation for their life.

There are a number of healthy habits we can teach children throughout the day and incorporate into our program. The absolute best way to teach our children these healthy habits is to take them on board ourselves.  Would you want the children to eat what you are eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner?  Are you doing as much exercise for your body as you believe is healthy? Do you take time to relax which helps with behaviour and anxiety?

These are just three areas you can look at in your life as the children you teach really do look up to you. They see what you eat, how you talk about yourself and the way you treat your body. They see all of that and take this on board. Children in our care can sometimes spend more time with us than many other adults in their life. We need to ensure we are sending the right message through our own actions.

One tip to start making positive changes is to add in not take out. This means add extra fruit and vegetables into your diet. Eat these first and then eat what you were eating before. Chances are you wont be as hungry and will eventually phase out the less nutritious food you were eating before. This means do some exercise during the ad breaks of your favourite television programs. Jump around with the kids during the day. Do some exercise blasts during the day by randomly getting the children up and doing star jumps or wriggles. This means incorporate a meditation practice into your program. When you start making some changes then these will flow on into the classroom.
